Singing in Church
Singing is an expression of our joy in Christ
Singing is an expression of joy. In Colossians 3:16, St. Paul exhorts the faithful assembled in expectation of their Lord's return to sing together. He says, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.., singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Our relationship with God is one of love, and whether we sing loudly or softly, on pitch or out of tune, sing! St. Augustine very rightly says that, "it is natural for a lover to sing." We might also remember the ancient proverb that tells us "those who sing pray twice." So sing your praise, your love song, to God – He will surely be pleased. http://stjosephbcs.org/lm-10-the-importance-of-music-and-singing
God commands us to sing
"Sing out the honor of His name; make His praise glorious" (Ps. 66:2).
"Sing aloud to God our strength" (Ps. 81:1).
"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation" (Ps. 95:1).
"Do not be drunk with wine ... but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord" (Eph. 5:18–19).
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord" (Col. 3:16).
Psalm 100:1-2 “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.”
The Second Vatican Council states the choirs support congregations
The Second Vatican Council specified that the treasure of sacred music should be preserved. Choirs were to support congregational singing.Taize
